Walking for Exercise
|
Walking for exercise is an activity that most anyone not suffering from physical limitations can do. And walking for exercise isn't just for your physical health but for emotional and spiritual health as well. Walking for exercise doesn't involve attempting to get your body into "unnatural' positions, like some other exercise programs. There are some walking for exercise routines that are designed to increase your heart-rate and fat-burning potential: but even a simple stroll through the neighborhood is better for you than being a "couch-potato."

Walking for exercise doesn't require a huge investment in equipment, special clothing, complicated regimens, or 'big chucks' of time out of your daily schedule. To engage in walking for exercise you only need a good pair of: walking shoes, loose-fitting clothing, remembering your house keys so you can get in after your walk, 15 to 30 minutes of time, and motivation to putting one foot in front of the other.
Walking for exercise is an excellent way to improve your emotional health because when you engage in any physical activity, the body produces a hormone known as 'serotonin,' which is responsible for stabilizing our moods. Walking for exercise also allows you to 'connect' with the nature around you as you walk, it can be a time of 'renewal' for over-worked spirits, time to 'reflect' on things in your life, or a time to re-connect with your faith.
Before you begin walking for exercise you should consult with your family physician to ensure there are no medical reasons you should avoid walking for exercise.
