Pedometer
|
There are many different aspects of a pedometer that you need to look at before purchasing one. There are pedometers out there that are good quality units and are long lasting, but there are also "pieces of plastic junk". Here are several items you should look at before buying your pedometer:
|
- Price
The amount of money you spend on your pedometer does not necessarily mean it is a good or bad pedometer. Some less expensive models may work wonderfully for you, while a more expensive pedometer will have bells and whistles you just don't need. Do your research, shop around, and find a pedometer that has only those features that are necessary and desirable.
- Manufacturer
Don't look for "Made in the USA" on your pedometer, because you just won't find one! Every model you will find has an Asian manufacturer. This is not a red flag in the avoidance of a pedometer purchase, as most of the manufacturers still make a quality product. Studies show that pedometers made in Japan are best quality, while Taiwan is second and China third.
- Warranty
Look for a pedometer with around a one-year warranty. These pieces of equipment are rather inexpensive when it comes to fitness gear, so don't expect a longer warranty.
- Leash
Having a leash for your pedometer is a good investment. With the inevitable shifting it will do when you walk, it will probably fall off at least once. If loose, think of what will happen when you pedometer hits the pavement!
- Stride/Weight Adjustments
The pedometer you buy should have options for setting your own stride and weight. Not everyone is "average", and pre-set pedometers do not account for the differences.
It is best to look at all five of these items when buying your pedometer. Just looking at the price may get you a nice belt ornament, but it won't do much for measuring your steps.
