Digital Pedometer
|
When choosing a digital pedometer, there are several things you must consider. The highest on the list is just how accurate is it. Not all digital pedometers measure your physical activity and walking distance with the same accuracy.
|
The best way to find out how accurate the digital pedometer is that you are interested in: find and read studies! Studies show that with a digital pedometer, you will normally find that it provides you with measurements that are accurate to within 10%.
When comparing some of the most popular brands of the digital pedometer, it was found that the most accurate was the Yamax brand, measuring steps at almost 100%. Other brands, found to be almost as accurate and the Yamax brand digital pedometer are the Accusplit and the Pacer. Eddie Bauer and L.L. Bean brands were found to be the least accurate pedometers.
Walking surface insignificantly affected an individual digital pedometer in studies. However, when your walking speed is too slow, it can make a digital pedometer miss steps and it will no longer show a true record of your activity. A digital pedometer works best at a brisk pace of 3 to 4 miles per hour. It should be noted that all digital pedometers are much more accurate than the old, gear driven pedometers, though.
Other factors that will help you decide what digital pedometer to buy: price, size, and possibly peer reviews.
