Walking Shorts
|
Many people think that the most important gear for walking is the shoes and/or boots that you choose. While it is true that your feet take most of the brunt of your walk, it is also true that your legs need to be covered comfortably in order for your walk to be beneficial. You wouldn't go out walking with boots or shoes that gave you blisters or didn't fit right - it's the same for your walking shorts.

Walking shorts come in a variety of shapes, styles, colors and materials. Most walking shorts are made of a Lycra and nylon blended material - which is great for flexibility. However, there are also cotton and micro-fiber walking shorts that are equally as good for walking, depending on what you are looking for in your walking shorts.
Walking shorts should fit comfortably to your form. You don't have to wear them 'skin tight' nor 'baggy' in order to conform to proper walking standards. Wear what is comfortable for you.
Your walking shorts should not chaff or rub on your skin - this will only lead to incredible discomfort while you are walking and for days afterwards. Your walking shorts should be breathable and cool to wear. The fabric should be forgiving while you walk, meaning they should move with your body comfortably.
The key to walking shorts is simple and in most cases a personal preference. Walking shorts need to be comfortable for you. What is right for you may not be right for your walking partner or the person that lives down the street that power walks every day. Different body shapes and sizes will mean different styles, shapes and materials of walking shorts. When you try on walking shorts, ensure that you walk around the store with them on to see how they feel while you are moving - then go ahead and choose the ones that feel the most comfortable for your body style.
