First of all, shortness of breath may simply occur because you are in poor physical condition. If new to exercising or you are following a new exercise regimen, it may be that your body simply needs to adjust to the strain you are putting on it and in time, you'll find the shortness of breath will diminish.
This shortness of breath may also occur if you have exercise-induced asthma. Many individuals do not even realize this is what they have. Of course, if you are obese or in poor physical shape, this will only increase the severity of the asthma.
Another more serious cause of shortness of breath while exercising is angina. Angina is a symptom or coronary artery disease and is a pain in the chest area. Many, while exercising, may experience both shortness of breath and pain in the chest which many feel go along with the shortness of breath. However, if experiencing both of these symptoms while exercising, you'll want to consult your physician immediately.
Shortness of breath during a regular physical activity is not necessary normal. If an individual is experiencing this regularly, they should consult the advice of their physician, as it could be a sign of something more serious than physical exertion. |
