Breathing - it sounds simple, doesn't it? But there is more than one breathing method involved. Different people, some of them medical practitioners, have studied breathing methods seriously. And an increasing number of followers claim that learning the proper breathing method has helped improve their health.
One breathing method we know of is Buteyko, also called the BBT (Buteyko breathing technique), which was developed by a Ukrainian doctor - Buteyko - primarily for asthma and emphysema sufferers. It also relieves symptoms stemming from other problems like obesity and migraines. It focuses on the diminution of stress and reduction of anxiety levels and aims to control and regulate breathing to increase carbon dioxide in the bloodstream.
Another breathing method was developed by Dan Millman as described in his book, The Laws of Spirit. He calls breathing the conduit between mind and emotion. There is a call for balance and harmony between these two forces.
Conscious Breathing was written by Gay Hendricks, and although it is not a breathing method per se, he talks of breathing disorders that lie at the core of illness. He talks of all individuals having the ability to mix an "oxygen cocktail" - which is nothing but deep, healthy breathing.
Whatever breathing method you adopt, let it be the first step in achieving a better physical you.
