The difference between the two is important as the body is able to store fat soluble vitamins for extensive periods, whereas the water soluble vitamins only stay in the system for short periods and need to be replenished often.

Minerals on the other hand are already available in the body in small amounts. When they are all added together, they only make up 4% of our total body weight. However, even when they are present in small amounts they are extremely critical in a wide variety of bodily processes. This can be anything from simple bone formation to cardiovascular maintenance. Several minerals are also associated with the prevention of many diseases such as osteoporosis and cancer prevention.

Both vitamins and minerals regardless of their forms or classifications need to be replenished in the body daily. This can be done either through food sources, or with vitamins and mineral supplementation.
