The Many Benefits of Vitamin E.

One of the most commonly known benefits of Vitamin E is that it serves as an antioxidant in the body and fights free radicals that work hard to produce cell and tissue damage.
Vitamin E is also critical in contributing to circulatory health and assists in blood clotting. Another of the many benefits of Vitamin E is that it works very well in the healing of wounds. Many women have also discovered the easing of premenstrual cramps as a benefit of Vitamin E.

Research has recently shown that large doses of this vitamin have greatly reduced potential Coronary Artery Disease. Studies on animals show that ingestion of Vitamin E slows down the progression of clogged arteries, a condition known as atherosclerosis. However, the American Heart Association is waiting to see results from larger controlled trials until recommending use of the supplements to treat atherosclerosis.

Additional benefits of Vitamin E are that it is possibly responsible for reversing the aging process. Many researchers believe that this is due to its ability to protect tissues and cells from the damage caused by free radicals. There also seems to be evidence suggesting that it promotes immunological health in older people. In a study of 88 healthy people aged 65 and older, those taking 200 IU of Vitamin E a day showed the greatest increase in immune-system responses. Other studies suggest that it may even fight toxins caused by cigarette smoke. In a study of thousands of smokers, Vitamin E supplementation reduced the risk or prostate cancer by 33% and the death rate from the disease by 41%. The dosage for the study was 50 IU a day, indicating that even low doses of Vitamin E may offer protective benefits. Other reported benefits of Vitamin E are in the treatment of Parkinson's disease, stalling the production of cataracts, and slowing down the onset of Alzheimer's disease.
