Home Remedy for Insomnia

It is estimated that around 20 millions Americans are taking sleeping pills regularly. For people who fall into this category, being able to sleep is a blessing.

Are you among one of those people who suffer from restless nights? Are you among those who spend countless nights just staring at your alarm clock or go for a night walk alone ? just because you have a hard time sleeping? Let's see what are certain things that you may be able to do at home to ease your problem :

No Caffeine
For some people the cause is easy to identify. Too much coffee, tea, chocolates or soda can impede the body's ability to rest or sleep at night. So, the first logical step is to reduce the amount of caffeinated drinks that you take. If you regularly take more than a few cups of coffee everyday, you may experience headache if you cut your consumption suddenly. Cut the amount gradually. It's also advisable that you limit your coffee intake in the morning.

Get Rid of Stimulants
Some people love to use alcohol at night. Although it may make you drowsy ( and induce sleep like some people claims) it would also cause dehydration. The bad effect is it would wake you up in the middle of the night in search of plain water to drink. People who smoke would also find it easier to sleep when they give up smoking.

Try These Foods
There are certain foods that would be beneficial for you to take before going to bed if you suffer from insomnia. Yoghurt, dates, figs, bananas or just a warm glass of milk maybe helpful. These foods are comforting and won't do you any harm ? unless you're allergic to milk.

Exercise
During the old days when most people work in farms, almost nobody complains about not being able to go to sleep. Why? Because a physically tired body loves sleep ? it actually promotes one. So another easy alternative to sleeping pills is exercise. Just make sure that you don't exercise too close to bedtime because it would have an opposite impact.

Take Hot Baths
Another great way to pamper your body and make you feel drowsy is by taking a hot bath. Take it about an hour or two before you go to sleep and feel the difference. And then, as you're about to go to bed, play nice calming music. If you're among those who hate taking a bath at night, just get a hot foot bath. It would draw blood away from your head, effectively making you feel much calmer and making your sleep easier.

Put a Limit
There's a limit for everything. No matter how much work you have or how busy you are, never take your office work to your bed. At the same time, limit TV at your living room. When you have problem sleeping, you need to associate your bed with sleeping and the feeling of drowsiness. If you bring your work on the bed you would make the mind a lot more alert and you're suggesting to it to be more active at the time when you are about to sleep. Remember your minds is just a loyal servant. So be a good boss and let it rest when it's supposed to.
