Acupuncture Benefits
After the golden age of Traditional Chinese Medicine ended, the practice went into a significant decline, contaminated with superstitious and magical practices and became unattached from the pure and powerful philosophy behind it. When the Chinese government started to acknowledge it and encourage it, the practice started to gain public acceptance and attracts research into its benefits.
WHO recognition
World Health Organisation, WHO has listed certain illnesses that could benefit from acupuncture. The organization stated that acupuncture has been proven effective in relieving postoperative pain, nausea during pregnancy, nausea and vomiting resulting from chemotherapy, and dental pain with extremely low side effects. It can also alleviate anxiety, panic disorders and insomnia.
In China In the country, acupuncture is widely used as a form of anesthesia where the effectiveness is said to be in the region of 90 %. It has been successfully used during childbirth, dentistry and for operations.
Acupuncture Benefit for Pregnancy
In Journal of Royal Society of Medicine 1989, research confirmed that stimulation on acupuncture points 5 cm above the crease of waist relieved and even eliminated nausea and vomiting in early pregnancy.
Back pain
If you suffer from back pain, acupuncture may offer some benefits. In a Swedish study on 1989, researchers showed that acupuncture eased post surgical pain and in US studies in 1980s showed that acupuncture managed to relieve neck and lower back pain suffered by patients.
Arthritis pain
Numerous studies have shown that acupuncture is effective in relieving arthritis pain. One of the study was published in December 21, 2004, issue of the "Annals of Internal Medicine".
Funded by the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM) and the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases (NIAMS), the study concluded that Acupuncture provides pain relief and improves function for people with osteoarthritis of the knee and serves as an effective complement to standard care.
Stroke attack
Stroke patients could also benefit from acupuncture, especially if the treatment begins within 40 days after the attack. Researchers from the Suunaas Rehabilation Hospital in Norway made the discovery after placing 45 stroke patients, with an average age of 57, into either a control group or an acupuncture treated group.
The acupuncture group was given acupuncture 3 to 4 times a week for 6 weeks. In the study, the improvement among the acupuncture group was far greater than that of the control group.
