Massage – Why Does It Works ?
Although massage only touches the skin and affect the muscles directly under it, it is believed that the lower layer muscles would also received indirect benefit from it. This form of therapy is normally used to induce general relaxation but has also be found effective in treating illnesses like high blood pressure, sinusitis, headache and insomnia.
While it helps in making sure that blood flows in the body more effectively, massage has also been reported to increase the amount of oxygen in the blood up to 15 %. The resulting feeling of calmness will be able to help patients who are depressed or in anxiety. Nowadays, certain modern hospital massage has been performed to surviving cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy. Increasing the amount of oxygen in the blood will also reduce the chances of getting cancer. Researchers believe that one of the major reasons why cells become malignant or cancerous is because of lack of oxygen.
Apart from being a good way to correct damaged posture, massage is also beneficial during childbirth. It is believed that woman in labor will find that pain during childbirth could be reduced or eased if massage is performed on the buttocks and back.
The Japanese form of massage - acupressure, have been reported to successfully treat patient with digestive problems, migraine and back pain. Osteopathy, the massage technique introduced by an American doctor, (Dr Andrew Taylor) has been well recognized to help patient with pain in the face or head. This technique was first regarded radical but is now accepted by general practitioners worldwide as a practice of good medicine.
Psychologically, the enjoyments of being touch and stroked offer the sense of love. The physical contact offers a non-verbal form of communication and induces the feeling of calmness, serenity and intimacy.
