Alexander Technique Session
What would happen in a session? This article will give you a clue at what to expect if you decided to enroll in an Alexander Technique class.
Your First Session
Alexander Technique session is usually done on one to one basis. So, don’t expect a big group of students practicing it like in a yoga class. Normally, a class will consist of only you and a teacher.
Your first session will start with your teacher asking you to lie flat on your back with a few books supporting your head. He will then asked you to bend your knees and a few adjustments to your position will be made. This is normally what a typical introductory session is like.
You are introduced to Alexander Technique by lying down because it is believed that at this position your body is more relaxed. When your mental state is in this condition, even a small adjustment made by a teacher will give the body great impact.
After that, you will be asked to sit or stand. During this time the teacher will make a few more adjustments to your posture and will re-educate you on the right way of using the body. You will be taught to use your muscle will the smallest effort or strain possible. This includes learning how to sit or stand correctly.
What happen after that first session?
After you have been taught about the basic of Alexander Technique, your later sessions will concentrate on how you move, walk or in doing other daily things. You will be shown how to do daily activities without straining your muscles or damaging your posture.
Your Alexander Technique class will normally last about 30 – 45 minutes per class. A normal course would consist of 15 to 30 classes. If you are quick and a devoted learner you may not need so many classes. It all depends on you.
