What You Should Not Massage
If massage is used for healing or treating an illness, a trained masseur should perform it. Generally, anybody can give a regular massage provided certain factors are kept in mind.
Make sure you do not massage:
- Areas that have received surgical incision
- Any area that is known to contain a tumor
- The abdomen within two hours of eating
- The abdomen if the person receiving it has hernia
- Body parts that are swollen, inflamed or infected
- Anybody with a high fever, tuberculosis or some other infectious disease; massaging could spread the problem through the entire body
- Anyone with a contagious skin disease; acne and rashes are common examples
- Bad sprains or strains
- People with circulatory problems such as varicose veins or thrombophlebitis
