Chinese Acupuncture -- Healing Via Needles

Tumor, Oranges and Chinese Acupuncture

Can Chinese acupuncture allow you to have your brain tumor removed and eat oranges at the same time? No way? Sounds ridiculous? Tell that to New York Times reporter James Reston, who said that only a single acupuncture needle was needed to act as anesthetic. During his 1972 tour of China, he claimed to have interviewed a brain tumor patient, who was enjoying his oranges while his "skull was wide open."

Reston's article on Chinese acupuncture was the single most important catalyst in bringing the practice to the Western world. People were looking for alternatives, for safer and simpler ways of healing. Acupuncture seemed to address their needs. No matter how strange it may have seemed, people were willing to give it a try. Suddenly, conventional doctors who once sneered at acupuncture began to learn and practice it, fuelled by huge demand. Out of the blue, acupuncture became a sensation. Read the acupuncture history

Acupuncture, Is It a Joke?

Reston was not joking. Acupuncture is widely used in modern hospitals in China for operation, childbirth and dentistry. The World Health Organization (WHO) has also recognized it. One study reveals that people using acupuncture take 79 percent less prescription drugs.

Quick Note

Chinese acupuncture works by stimulating the flow of a patient's Qi, believed to be the natural healing force that dwells in the body. This technique is believed to be as much as 4,000 years old. It can be traced back to Chinese warriors recovering from arrow wounds. The warriors often found that following the arrow wounds, they were cured of previous diseases and health conditions.
