Home Remedies for Scabies
Scabies is a common skin condition with a terribly itchy sensation. This extreme irritation is caused by microscopic mites that enter deep inside the skin. The mites are nocturnal, which is why the itching increases and becomes unbearable at night. The disease is characterized by skin rashes and tiny, red bumps that mostly occur on the waist, knees, feet, nipples and genitals.
Scabies is a contagious disease that spreads in sexually-active people. The disease also spreads through close contact. In this article, we discuss a few scabies home remedies.
Home Remedies
- One of the most effective scabies home remedies is tea tree oil. It not only acts as a disinfectant, but also penetrates deep into the skin, relieving pain and curing the infection. Tea tree oil can be applied directly on the affected area twice a day. However, some people may be allergic to it. It is always advisable to consult a physician before using it, and to seek medical advice if any side effects are noticed.
- Neem is an effective agent for treating scabies. A paste made from dried neem leaves can be mixed with turmeric powder and a few drops of mustard oil. Apply this paste on the affected areas and leave on for an hour. Then wash off and pat dry. Repeat daily for a month to see positive results.
- Drumstick leaves are also used to treat scabies. Combine the juice of drumstick leaves with sesame oil. Heat this solution and apply on the affected areas to eliminate scabies.
- Scabies can also be cured by taking a light diet that is low on spices and high on protein. Fresh fruits like apples, pineapples, oranges and peaches should be added to the diet to strengthen immunity.
- Maintaining personal hygiene is very important for scabies patients. They should use clean and separate pillows, towels, bedspreads and wear properly washed clothes to prevent further spread of the infection.
