Home Remedies for Treating Ringworm
Ringworm is a contagious fungal skin condition caused by dermatophytes. Although commonly experienced by children, it can affect anyone.
The symptoms generally depend on the type of ringworm attacking the individual. The commonest symptoms include red-ringed blister patches, scaly patches on the skin, itching and irritation. Some of the commonest types of ringworm include tinae arbae, tinae capitis, tinae corporis, tinae cruris and tinae manus.
Once ringworm is diagnosed, doctors usually prescribe medications to treat the condition. You could also use home remedies to eliminate the itchy problem.
Home Remedies
- First, ensure that your body is clean. Bathe twice daily, thrice if you perspire a lot. Wear clean and clothes that are not too tight.
- Mustard seeds are known for their antifungal properties. They are a great home remedy for ringworm. Prepare the remedy by pulverizing some mustard seeds and mixing in a small amount of water to form a paste. Apply this paste on the affected area and let it dry. Repeat thrice or four times daily, until the infection clears completely.
- Soothe and speed up healing by applying virgin coconut oil on the affected areas. This moisturizes the skin and relieves itchiness.
- Use bay leaves to reduce swelling. Blend some green bay leaves in a little water to form a paste and apply on the affected areas.
- Studies show that lemon offers many benefits to patients with ringworm. Lemon is used to treat a wide range of skin conditions because of its healing properties.
- Another way to eliminate blisters and scaly patches is by rubbing raw papaya on them. Do this a few times a day. You should see results in a few days. You may feel some irritation and inflammation while rubbing papaya on the skin. This is normal and should go away in time. It is a sign that the nutrients of the papaya are being absorbed into the skin.
These are just some of the ringworm remedies that you can try at home. They should relieve some of your symptoms. If your symptoms worsen or you notice new and more serious symptoms, contact your doctor immediately to get a proper diagnosis.
