Remedies for Prostate Disorders
Prostate disorders are among the commonest medical problems faced by men over the age of 60. Some examples of prostate disorders include benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), prostatitis and prostate cancer. BPH is most often experienced by older males. Some physicians consider it a normal consequence of the aging process in males because of the incidence of reported cases.
Some symptoms of BPH include difficulty in urinating, painful ejaculation, pain behind the scrotum and a burning sensation during urination. Although there are several drugs to treat BPH and other prostate disorders, many home remedies and alternative treatments can help improve prostrate health.
Home Remedies
- Drink watermelon tea. Watermelons are rich in water, and are excellent diuretics. Drinking watermelon tea once daily helps flush toxins and harmful substances out of the prostate and the bladder.
- Omega-3 fatty acids are helpful in fighting prostate cancer and other prostate disorders. Increase your consumption of foods rich in omega-3. Fish like mackerel, salmon and tuna are great sources of omega-3.
- Studies show that tomatoes reduce the risk of prostate cancer by as much as 50 percent. This is because tomatoes are rich in lycopene, a powerful antioxidant compound that helps fight different types of cancer.
- For many years now, German physicians have been using pumpkin seeds to treat difficulties in urination associated with an enlarged prostate. Pumpkin seeds have diuretic properties as well as zinc, a mineral that strengthens the immune system. You can eat pumpkin seeds as is after shelling them or prepare pumpkin seed tea. To make pumpkin seed tea, crush a generous quantity of pumpkin seeds and place in a jar of boiling water. Strain and drink when it cools.
- Increase your consumption of soy-based foods. These contain phytoestrogens that are believed to decrease the production of testosterone, which in turn inhibits the growth of prostate cancer cells. Studies show that phytoestrogens also help limit the growth of blood capillaries that form around prostrate tumors.
