Plugged Ears Home Remedy
Ear clogging is a common problem that may be due to several different factors. Sometimes, the culprit may be an ear infection that causes fluid buildup in the ears. At other times, the cause may be quite different.
Regardless of the cause, the ear may feel clogged or plugged. You may feel like water is trapped in your ear or that you are hearing from underwater. Various plugged ears home remedy methods help you drain the fluid and alleviate the discomfort.
Home Remedies
- One method of soothing the ears is by nasal irrigation using a Neti pot. This clears the sinuses and helps remove mucus. It can help unclog the ears when used as directed.
- If your ears are clogged in high altitudes, try chewing gum. This can cause the ears to pop, or depressurize. Yawning may also have the same effect.
- Sometimes the pressure and clogging sensation is due to a buildup of wax. Your doctor can remove accumulated earwax with a special tool. Never use any tool or even a cotton swab to clean inside the ear. This could cause the eardrum to rupture. Old wax looks very dark, even black. That is a sign that it has been there a long time. Doctors may even irrigate the ear forcefully with water to loosen the wax. This procedure may be a little uncomfortable but not extremely painful. This is not typically a home remedy, but the procedure is usually simple and not too expensive.
- Another plugged ears home remedy involves gentle ear cleaning and irrigation using peroxide and water. Use a few drops of peroxide in the ear, and then lay down so that it trickles into the ear and penetrates it. Remain in this position for 20 minutes. Then turn over and repeat with the other ear. After this, you can rinse out the ear with a bulb syringe. You may notice the wax being flushed out.
