Safe & Natural Laxative Home Remedy
Constipation is the root cause of several digestive ailments. Chronic sufferers of constipation tend to use over-the-counter laxatives. Unfortunately, many of these laxatives can be habit-forming and may alter the natural process of nutrition uptake in the body.
It is recommended that you familiarize yourself with some natural laxative home remedies. Natural laxatives have a higher concentration of natural, soluble fibers. Remember, natural laxatives contain more soluble than insoluble fibers. This ensures that stools absorb more water, which makes them softer and easier to pass out without too much strain.
Home Remedies
- Psyllium husk is one of the few over-the-counter, herbal laxatives that are totally safe. It is not habit-forming and does not alter the natural course of digestion. The husk contains small, powder-like fiber bits that swell on absorbing water. This helps move the stools gradually in the required direction.
- Prune juice is another effective natural laxative. Although it contains both soluble and insoluble fibers, it relieves constipation if consumed systematically for a few days. Sip on prune juice before big meals. Besides its laxative properties, the juice is also rich in potassium, iron and Vitamin A.
- Whole fruits that are popular for their laxative qualities include guava and papaya. While guava is more effective in the juice form, regular consumption of papaya in the morning will get rid of constipation. Both these fruits can be added to salad preparations everyday to increase fiber intake. Grapes are another great source of natural fiber.
- Natural seeds are another smart way of treating constipation. Sunflower seeds as well as flax seed ground with almonds and linseed make for potent laxatives. However, this is better suited for adults. Children and adolescents may not be able to tolerate this mixture. Grind this seed mixture and consume daily with a glass of lukewarm water to increase the volume of stool and make defecation easier.
