Home Remedies

  • To treat the lesions caused by scabies, prepare a paste using neem leaves, turmeric powder and mustard oil. Apply this paste on your body and leave on for an hour. Take a bath or shower afterwards. Do this for several days and you should notice that the lesions are healing faster than expected. This is primarily because neem leaves have antibacterial and insecticidal properties that help kill the mites that have burrowed in the skin. Thus, it cures the condition and prevents further infection.

  • Tea tree oil is another effective natural home remedy for scabies. Studies show that tea tree oil is more potent than many powerful antiseptics in the market. It is also safe for external use. Add about 20 drops of tea tree oil to warm bath water and soak in it for 20 minutes. Repeat this twice daily for a week. You can also apply tea tree oil directly on the affected areas and rub with a cotton wool pad.

  • Oatmeal is another natural remedy that provides relief from itching during a scabies infection. Add oatmeal to your bath water and soak in it to reduce itchiness, thereby preventing scratching, which could worsen the infection.

  • To reduce inflammation and soreness use the following home remedy. Boil onions in water, and allow the water to cool. Then apply this water on the affected areas of your skin. Onions contain quercetin, a natural compound that has been studied to soothe the skin.
