Home Remedy for Razor Burn

Razor burn is in irritation of the epidermis caused by removal of hair from the body with a razor.

This causes the peeling of the top layer of your skin. Blood vessels dilate and the skin will become very red, causing bumps, swelling, and irritation, often resulting in itchiness. The red bumps or pseudofolliculitis barbae are caused by the hair growth reversing direction and growing back into the skin. If you develop symptoms, use a home remedy for razor burn to ease the irritation.

Aloe Vera

The most used home remedy for razor burn is Aloe Vera. A moisturizer with an Aloe base can be rubbed into the affected skin. Aloe Vera will help to reduce the redness and irritation.

Oatmeal Bath

Another commonly used home remedy for razor burn is the oatmeal bath.

To Reduce the Symptoms

Add powered oatmeal to a warm bath and soak for fifteen minutes. If no powered oatmeal is available, simply add one cup of oatmeal into a clean sock or nylons and soak in the bathwater. Oatmeal will reduce swelling and itching.

Chamomile Skin Wash

A less-used home remedy for razor burn is a Chamomile skin wash. For soothing the itching of razor burn, mix one teaspoon of Chamomile in a cup of hot water and let cool. Apply to the skin as needed to stop itching. To aid in healing, you can also add one teaspoon of Comfrey or Marigold.

To prevent razor burn, hydrate your skin before shaving and lubricate your skin after you shave, preferably with an Aloe based lubricant. If you notice the razor burn is not disappearing or look infected, consult the advice of your physician.
