Mouth ulcers or canker sores are open sores found inside the mouth, They may be due to various factors including physical abrasion, infections, eating acidic fruits, medication and other medical conditions.

- Eat raw onions. Onions are high in sulfur, which is effective for treating mouth ulcers. Add onions to fresh salads or eat them on their own.
- Mouth ulcers are sometimes caused by a deficiency of Vitamin C. Hence, increasing your intake of Vitamin C-rich fruits and vegetables is a great treatment for the condition. Increase your intake of fruits and vegetables like oranges, broccoli, mangoes, papaya, peppers and kiwi.
- To relieve the irritation and pain of mouth ulcers, apply peppermint oil on them. Peppermint oil's anti-inflammatory properties offer great relief.
- Avoid eating spicy food, smoking and drinking coffee. These may worsen mouth ulcer pain.
- To eliminate bacteria in the mouth and speed up healing of the mouth ulcer, combine sodium bicarbonate in water and use as a mouth rinse.
- Salt is a quick home remedy for mouth ulcers. Cover your mouth ulcer with salt and leave on for about five minutes before rinsing your mouth with water. Do not lick the salt. The salt will speed up healing of the mouth ulcer much faster. Do this several times a day, and your mouth ulcer should disappear within one or two days.
- Several herbs can be used to treat mouth ulcers. These include calendula and golden seal tea which may be used as a gargle; bilberries, which can act as an astringent, helping to draw tissues together; and blackberry leaf tea and rose petals, which you can drink to relieve the symptoms of mouth ulcers.
