Home Remedy for Heart Problems

Heart disease is truly a disease of the modern world. Being the leading case of death almost everywhere in civilized nations, it is one disease that all of us must learn to avoid.

There are many factors contributing to this disease. High blood pressure, alcohol, obesity, smoking, lack of demanding exercise and stress could all be the cause. The only way to fight it is to change your lifestyle and get your blood cholesterol reduced to an acceptable level.

Remember, degenerative heat disease usually takes more than 20 or more years of wrong lifestyle for the effect to be noticeable. Because the problem cannot be reversed overnight we have compiled a few long term home remedies for heart diseases. We hope it would help you regain your optimum health, gradually but effectively.

Eat Fish

Substitute your meat with fish. Add more fish servings into your diet -- especially cold-water fish like cod or salmon. Containing high level of Omega-3 Fatty acids, this substance has been associated with lowering the body's cholesterol level.

Increase Fiber

Eat more whole grain like brown rice, wheat and oats. If you're thinking of snacks, think of whole grain crackers, muffins or bread. Soluble fiber -- ones found in fruits and bran -- has shown to be effective in lowering your cholesterol. Just make sure that you increase your fiber intake gradually because the body needs to adjust to this new high fiber diet.

Stop Smoking

Not many people know that smoking can affect the body's cholesterol level. Effectively increases your blood pressure, it would also raise your chances of getting stroke. Get help now to stop the habit. Apart from your money, you could probably be saving your life too.

Exercise Regularly

Take it slowly, but whether you like it or not, you must start. Even most moderate exercise like walking is beneficial to reduce your body weight and helps reduce cholesterol level in the long term. You may also want to do other activities like bicycling, rowing or swimming as long as your doctor gives you the green light. If these sound impossible, park your car a block or two away from your office and walk from there. Once you get to the office, skip the elevator and try the stairs instead.

Handle Meat Differently

You can still eat chicken or turkey but get rid of the skins. It contains a high amount of saturated fat and wouldn't do you any good. Organ meats should also be forgotten because they are tremendously high in fat and cholesterol. At the same time it's better for you to steam, grill or use boiling as your method of cooking. These types of cooking will not add additional fat into the diet.

Mediterranean Diet

A diet that is similar to Mediterranean diet has been confirmed to have good effect on your heart. In fact several studies have shown that people on this diet have less death from heart attack or cancer. Even if you can't change your diet to a Mediterranean one, just increase you vegetables intake. Food from plants contains no cholesterol and is low in fats. Try fresh raw mixed salad that includes seed sprouts. Or try recipes that include beans, tofu or fresh fruits.

Water Therapy

To stimulate circulation, try alternative hot-cold shower. One word of caution: Do it gradually to prevent sudden shock that the heart may not be able to stand. This is how you should do it. Take an alternate hot, then lukewarm shower, alternating them every 2-3 minutes. Slowly over the next 2-6 months increase the difference in temperature from hot/cool to hot/ice. If you're unsure about the technique, ask your doctor.
