Home Remedy for Head LiceThe good news is that lice can usually be eliminated by using home remedies. This is a common problem for children in school, and many parents prefer to avoid using harsh over-the-counter treatments. Home RemediesThe best home remedy for head lice involves simply picking out the lice with a nit comb and special tweezers. It may take awhile, and you may have to repeat this over several days until no signs of lice remain. Pesticide-type lice shampoos successfully kill lice, but not the eggs. The only solution is to pick out the eggs manually.Another home remedy is questionable but worth a try. It involves smothering the parasites by applying household ingredients like petroleum jelly, mayonnaise or olive oil on the child's scalp and covering the head with a shower cap. This is left on overnight, apparently to smother the lice under all the heat and goop. However, some experts believe that the real cleaning occurs the next morning when the parent washes the child's hair thoroughly. If you have trouble getting rid of head lice or if your child is suffering from scalp sores or severe discomfort, see a pediatrician. In some cases a prescription treatment may be used. Otherwise, your doctor might recommend some other home treatment and keep an eye on the condition. After treating your child for head lice, remove all their linens and replace them. Although head lice can be tricky to get rid of, it is possible. You do not have to expose your child to potentially dangerous chemicals in the process. Many schools monitor kids for lice so that the problem can be caught and treated early. Also Read: |
