Home Remedy for Head LiceYou can find a natural home remedy for head lice that you can administer on your child that doesn't include the use of any harsh chemicals. They are normally more time consuming... and some are not even proven to be effective... but it may be worth a try if you have concerns about prescription medications or medicated shampoos. The most natural home remedy for head lice known is for you, the parent, to remove all the live head lice and the nits (lice eggs) that can be found in your child's hair. This can take a long time, but it can be accomplished without chemicals. Using a lice comb or tweezers, you thoroughly search through the hair and pick out all the lice and lice eggs you can find. This will normally need to be repeated for several days, as it is normal to miss some of the live lice or nits the first time around. Even when using chemical shampoos created for killing lice, you would still have to use a lice comb in your child's hair to remove the lice eggs... since the shampoo will not kill the nits. This is actually the most common home remedy for head lice. Another home remedy for head lice that has been popular in the past is putting household items, including Vaseline, mayonnaise or oil, on your child's scalp and then covering it overnight with something like a shower cap. The idea with this therapy is that this remedy will smother the lice. This particular home remedy for head lice has not been successfully proven to work. Health care professionals think that what actually gets rid of the lice and nits when using this method is the intense cleaning of the child's hair to get the Vaseline or other substance out. If you have never been through a bout of head lice in your child, an excellent home remedy for head lice may be to speak with the school nurse or other parent that has been through the trenches and has successfully conquered this pest.
