Home Remedy for FluThe flu is very similar to a cold and has similar symptoms. Many a time, people who claim to have the flu are really suffering from a severe cold. The many similarities ensure that the home cures available for treating the flu are similar to remedies for the common cold. One effective home remedy for flu involves drinking plenty of fluids, provided these are the right kind of fluids. Fluids cannot actually cure the flu but they help combat its symptoms by preventing dehydration. Flu patients often become dehydrated, especially when the flu is accompanied by fever. Fluids help relieve symptoms of sore throat as well. Drink a glass of water with a teaspoon of salt for quick relief. However, the relief is only temporary. You may need to repeat the remedy several times. Recommended fluids for the flu include drinks made from herbs or fruits, or even just plain water. Fruit juice is most effective because it contains additional vitamins and minerals. Avoid drinks containing caffeine or alcohol -- these will dehydrate you further. The flu will run its course in about two weeks. Drinking plenty of fluids will not shorten the duration, but it will make the affliction easier to cope with. Fluids treat the symptoms, making flu patients more comfortable. If flu conditions persist even after two weeks, contact your family doctor to rule out other chronic causes. Also Read: |
