Home Remedy for Diabetes

Diabetes is responsible for one in eight deaths in the United States alone. It is considered a disease of civilization and lifestyle.

Because the initial symptoms of diabetes are usually mild, 50 percent of diabetic patients do not realize that they have the disease. Most believe that the symptoms of fatigue, frequent urination, excessive thirst and weakness are normal reactions to their hectic lifestyle.

If diabetes is left untreated, the future is bleak. The adverse results could range from limb amputation to stroke or even coma. If you have been positively diagnosed with diabetes, be proactive about your condition. See if this advice helps. Ask your doctor when in doubt.

Prevent First

As the consumption of sugar and refined carbohydrates (like rice and bread) increases, so does the number of diabetes cases. Various clinical studies have shown a relationship between milk consumption and diabetes in teenagers. Need proof? Scandinavians, who are among the world's heaviest milk drinkers have the highest rate of diabetes cases.

Diabetes is a disease that creeps up silently. It could take years of unhealthy lifestyle for it to manifest. The best thing to do is to prevent it in the fist place. Ensure that your children do not consume too much dairy, sweet or soda from a young age.

Say No to Obesity

An estimated 80 percent of all diabetics are obese; and obesity leads to several chronic diseases. Hence, doctors recommend losing weight. Even modest weight loss could have a big positive impact. Some people with Type-II diabetes (most diabetics fall into this category) cease to be diabetics on losing weight.

The key is to consume more fiber and avoid refined foods. Replace white bread with whole grain bread and white sugar with the unrefined variety.

Raw Deal

Diabetics need to reduce their dependence on insulin. A diet that is high in unrefined carbohydrates and fiber can help. Not only must you ensure that at least 75 percent of your diet comprises raw foods but also that the foods you eat have insulin-like effects on the body.

This includes wheat bran, oat bran, green beans, soybeans, tofu, garlic, avocado and raw green vegetables. Avoid fruits that are sweet, as well as dried fruits.

Mouth Control

Diabetics have a higher rate of infection. Be extra careful not to contract tooth decay or other periodontal diseases. Brush your teeth regularly. See your doctor if you detect white spots in your mouth or if your dentures slip.

Go for a Walk

In general, walking is the best form of exercise for diabetics. It is easy, relaxing and can be done daily. It promotes a sense of wellbeing while decreasing tension, lowering blood pressure and reducing the body's need for more insulin.
