The American Academy of Family Physicians defines cradle cap or seborrheic dermatitis as a disorder where the skin's oil glands are irritated.

When this condition occurs in infants, their scalps, eyebrows, areas behind their ears, and skin creases, become greasy and have thick patches of flaky oily yellow skin. Cradle cap commonly occurs to babies aged two days to three months.
