Home Remedy for Coughs

If you have just recovered from a cold or flu, you may still have an irritating lingering cough; or you may have a lung irritation that is causing more coughing than usual.

If that nagging coughing is making your throat sore, try some home remedies to alleviate your cough and provide relief to your lungs and the back of your throat.

Home Remedies

  • Most people are unaware that eating lots of grapes can ease cough symptoms. If eaten over a few days, grapes release an enzyme that helps break up mucus in the lungs, thereby reducing coughing. Grapes provide relief while strengthening the lungs to fight mucus and irritants in the future.

  • If you have any grape juice and honey lying around, a generous mixture of the two will help your cough. Honey soothes the throat while grape juice loosens the mucus and phlegm in your lungs.

  • If you are suffering from a dry cough, one that is not due to mucus buildup in the lungs, try gargling with salt water. Use a solution of salt and water in a ratio of 1:4 to soothe the inflamed membranes at the back of the throat.

  • Try gargling with some spinach juice. Spinach juice relaxes the throat and reduces pain until the cough goes away.
