Effective Home Remedies for Warts
Warts are non-cancerous growths on the skin that are caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV).
They are commonly found on the hands and feet, although they may occur on other areas of the body. Warts usually resemble a solid blister or a cauliflower, depending on the type. Some types of warts include common warts, filiform warts, plantar warts, mosaic warts, genital warts, periungual warts and flat warts.
Warts are fairly common among adults. They are also contagious. Warts generally disappear after a few months but some recur or last for years. If you have warts, try treating them with natural home remedies.
Home Remedies
- Apply a few drops of grapefruit seed extract directly on the wart and then cover with gauze or bandage. Grapefruit seed extract is readily available in most health food stores. This natural antiseptic can help kill the wart and the virus causing it.
- You can also use Vitamin A to treat warts. Crush a Vitamin A tablet or take the contents of a Vitamin A capsule and mix with water to form a paste. Apply this on the warts using a cotton swab and then cover with a bandage. This should speed up the healing process.
- Another good home remedy involves apple cider vinegar. Dip a clean cotton ball in some apple cider vinegar and place this over the wart. Cover with bandage or gauze. Change twice a day until the wart disappears.
- Many people recommend using duct tape on warts. Make sure you change them everyday. This could make your warts itch but they should be gone after a week or so.
- Aloe vera is also said to be effective in eliminating warts. Soak a cotton ball in fresh aloe vera juice or commercially-made pure aloe vera gel, and then tape the cotton ball on your wart. Aloe vera has antibacterial and antiviral properties that speed up the healing process.
- Castor oil, lemon essential oil and tea tree oil also promote healing of the wart.
