How to Get Rid of Vaginal Odor: Home Remedies That Can Help
Vaginal odor is usually caused by an underlying medical condition such as yeast infection, bacterial vaginosis or a sexually transmitted disease or infection.
The vagina normally has a distinct odor caused by bodily changes throughout a woman's menstrual cycle. When the vagina gives off an unusual odor, it can be an embarrassing problem. This may affect a woman's confidence and her relationship with her spouse or partner. If you have vaginal odor, these home remedies may help.
Home Remedies
- Vaginal odor may be due to a hormonal imbalance. In such a case, ginseng could help. Ginseng balances the hormones and strengthens the immune system, thereby preventing infections. Consume it raw or buy a capsule or supplement of ginseng extract. Take thrice daily.
- Licorice is another good herbal home remedy for vaginal odor, for it regulates the hormones. Buy a supplement made with deglycyrrhizinated licorice (DGL) and take thrice daily. Avoid if you have hypertension or high blood pressure.
- To add healthy bacteria to the vaginal area, take acidophilus capsules or make an acidophilus douche by mixing two teaspoons of acidophilus powder with a quart of warm water.
- Herbs like damask rose, Oregon grape and white oak bark can help correct the hormonal imbalance that is causing your vaginal odor.
- Add garlic to your dishes or take garlic supplements. Garlic has antibacterial properties. It fights harmful organisms that cause bad vaginal odor.
- Tea tree oil pessaries can get rid of the fishy smell. Tea tree oil is a natural antiseptic that helps eliminate bacteria in the vagina. Ensure that the pessary can be used in the vagina.
- Wear clean cotton underwear. Avoid constricting and airtight underwear and clothing that can promote the breeding of harmful bacteria in the vagina.
