Easy Home Remedies for Smelly Feet Explained
Smelly feet are common among people who sweat profusely, wear tight footwear throughout the day and sweat profusely. The smell is largely due to bacterial and fungal infections in the feet.
Prescription drugs and anti-odor lotions usually work but they are expensive treatments. Save yourself some money by using easy home remedies instead.
Precautionary Measures for Smelly Feet
- For starters, clean your feet regularly. This means scheduling some additional time apart from the daily bath to clean the feet.
- Dry your feet completely before wearing socks or shoes. This ensures that moisture does not seep into the crevices of the foot to form fungal infections.
- Change socks and inner footwear material regularly. Wear socks made of cotton or other sweat-absorbent material instead of synthetic socks.
- Keep your shoes out in the sun for a few hours every two weeks to eliminate underlying bacterial infections or spores
- If you sweat excessively, increase your daily water intake. This dilutes the concentration of salts in sweat, reducing chances of bacterial growth.
Remedial Measures for Smelly Feet
Treat your smelly feet to a special cleaning concoction. Soak your feet in a tub of water that contains black tea and cilantro. The tannins in tea help neutralize the odor.
You could also add a few drops of lemon juice to lukewarm water. Turnip juice and ginger juice are also effective against smelly feet.
If none of these remedies works, add baking soda and vinegar to the water. This solution cleans out the tiniest debris and grime from the feet.
