Home Remedies for Sinus
Sinus pain usually arises after a common cold or flu. It can be quite uncomfortable. If you do not want to take the usual medical route or buy a prescription-strength nasal decongestant, try a few tricks at home with things that are already sitting in your kitchen cabinet. Here are some easy home remedies for sinus treatment.
Home Remedies
- When we were children, we often inhaled eucalyptus. The fragrance still lingers in our memories. The premise is that if you mix fragrant eucalyptus in a pot of boiling water and inhale the steam, your sinuses will clear. Hot steam from the boiling water loosens the mucus in the sinuses. The strong smell of eucalyptus expands the nasal passages, allowing the loosened mucus to flow freely. You will need a cup of boiling water and less than a teaspoon's worth of eucalyptus oil. Your local grocery store should stock eucalyptus droppers. Mix the eucalyptus into the boiling water. Cover your head with a towel and bring your face close to the bowl. Inhale for 15 minutes or until you feel your sinuses clearing.
- If the sinus pain is too severe to prepare boiling water, run warm tap water onto a towel and place over your nose and face. The heat from the towel will have the same effect as the hot steam, though on a lesser scale.
- If you get hungry, eat some strong garlic. Garlic opens the nasal passages by releasing chemicals that melt mucus and promote breathing. Have a few garlic cloves at dinner. Combine this with inhalation for best results.
