Home Remedies for Sinus Infection
Medical research suggests that 15 to 20 percent of the world population suffers from sinus infections.
Sinus infections occur due to blockage in the nasal passage. Dust, common cold, allergies or a fungal infection can cause sinus. The disorder causes acute discomfort and irritation. People suffering from sinusitis often have breathing difficulty followed by headache, sneezing, cold and fever.
Luckily, some home remedies for sinus infection can be very effective.
Home Remedies
- Steam vapors are very effective in relieving sinus pain. Heat water until it is piping hot and then inhale the vapor. You can add a few drops of eucalyptus oil and basil leaves in the water for better results. Inhale for eight to 10 minutes several times a day.
- Garlic's anti-bacterial properties make it effective in curing sinus infection. Garlic juice can be taken once a day. You can also chop and boil fresh garlic in water and inhale the vapors twice a day.
- Sipping hot water is a good remedy for sinus. It helps dilute the mucus while hydrating the body. It also flushes out toxins and enhances the immune system. Apple cider vinegar added to a glass of warm water can be taken thrice or four times a day to ease the problem. Warm soups are another great cure. Add garlic and hot pepper to cure a headache.
- Olive oil massage is very useful in treating sinus infections. Rub a few drops of olive oil around the forehead, eyes and nose to dilute the mucus. Mustard seed oil also provides similar results.
- Oregano oil is another popular cure for sinusitis. Add a few drops to fruit juice or milk and take several times a day.
- A sinus wash is also very effective. It cleans the nasal passages, relieves headache and reduces sneezing.
- Avoid cold foods. Spicy food such as soups with pepper can help. Take plenty of rest as well.
