Home Remedies for Folliculitis

Folliculitis, often described as inflammation of hair follicles, is a common affliction worldwide. This infection generally occurs after shaving and can be treated by using a combination of herbal remedies.

Folliculitis occurs when bacteria and fungal organisms accumulate inside the hair follicles until the follicles become irritated. This results in a red rash that causes extreme itching. Regular shaving worsens the situation, making it almost intolerable at times.

Although the condition is relatively unknown and no readymade creams, ointments or other cures exist, it is fairly easy to produce a homemade cure. We essentially need an antiseptic solution to eliminate the bacteria.

A wide range of anti-bacterial remedies is at your disposal. The best method is also the easiest one -- use anti-bacterial soap. Rub the soap on a washcloth and shower it with hot water. The hotter the water, the more effective is the remedy. Hold the hot washcloth against the infected area for five seconds. You may feel a slight sting if the washcloth is hot enough. Later, the spot may look redder then before. The greater the heat, the more bacteria will be exterminated. Do not overdo this, as making the water hotter than you can stand might burn and damage the skin. Use this simple and effective remedy twice a day for a week. You should soon see significant improvements.

If there is no improvement by the end of the week, consult your doctor. The case could be severe. It may even be some other problem. Your doctor can help you determine the true cause of the rash.
