Home Remedies for Ear Ache
An ear ache can be slightly painful or terribly so. It is caused by fluid build-up inside the ear, largely due to an infection or pressure in the middle ear. Activities like swimming, bathing or even cleaning the ear can cause such infections.
Blocked tubes that connect the ear to the nose are usually the cause of ear aches. Once blocked, the tube becomes prone to bacterial infection. Fluids start accumulating here, leading to ear ache. The ear ache increases as pressure builds up. Other effects can include decreased hearing, itching, swelling and spreading of the infection to other parts of the ear.
Home Remedies
- Heat is your best ally if you need immediate relief. Apply a hot water compress to the ear for quick results. After bathing or taking a shower, it is recommended to use a hairdryer and blow dry the ear rather than rub with a towel.
- To eliminate pain caused by the ear ache, pour garlic juice into the ear. The juice acts as a natural antibiotic, decreasing the pain. In mild cases, it takes the pain away completely.
- If you must swim with an ear ache, pour a little olive oil or even petroleum-based oil in the infected ear before entering the water. Make sure the water is clean and use ear plugs while swimming.
- Excessive earwax can also cause ear aches and hearing problems. To get rid of earwax, apply hydrogen peroxide and drain out after a few minutes. Prevent earwax build-up by using a drop of alcohol after showering or bathing.
All of the above are excellent remedies against ear aches, as well as means to prevent infection from building up inside the ears.
