Home Remedies for Dark Circles Under Eyes
If you notice dark circles under your eyes, you are not alone. This common problem can have various causes.
One cause is lack of sleep, which is easy to fix. Go to bed earlier, or get out of bed later in the morning. If you have trouble sleeping, try a warm bath before bed or some chamomile tea. Do not watch television in bed as it can be too stimulating. Light reading material can induce sleep.
Sometimes, the cause is hereditary. In this case, there is little you can do to eliminate your dark circles completely. Home remedies for dark circles under eyes can help to an extent.
Home Remedies
- Try reclining with potato slices covering the eyes for 30 minutes. The theory is that the Vitamin K in potatoes helps lighten the dark circles. You can find Vitamin K serums, gels and creams at the drugstore.
- The following preparation is one of the most unusual yet widely touted home remedies for dark circles under eyes. Combine one teaspoon of tomato juice, a pinch of turmeric and half a teaspoon of lemon juice. Apply it on the under eye area and rinse off after 20 minutes. Be careful not to let the mixture get in the eyes. It is believed that even drinking tomato juice with lemon on a regular basis can help alleviate dark circles.
- Prepare a paste of pureed almonds and milk. Use this as an under eye mask. Once it dries, rinse and pat gently.
- Cucumbers over the eyes are a classic treatment for reducing dark circles, one that is also effective in eliminating puffiness and bags.
- If all else fails, as in cases of natural hyper pigmentation, makeup can disguise the problem. Yellow or peach concealer patted gently on the discolored area, then covered with flesh-toned concealer and powder can disguise even dark under eye circles when applied properly. Experiment with different shades to find what works best for your skin.
