Home Remedies for Dandruff
Many people suffer from dandruff. This scalp condition causes white flakes and itching. Continuous scratching worsens the flaking. The worst thing you can do is ignore it.
If you do not treat dandruff, it increases in severity. Luckily, there are easy home remedies for dandruff that you can use to help alleviate not only the annoying itch but also the unsightly flaking. Contrary to what many believe, excessive sebum (a natural oil) can cause dandruff. You may need to fix this to eliminate the dandruff problem.
Home Remedies
- A scalp massage with jojoba oil can relieve the symptoms of dandruff. Jojoba oil helps regulate sebum production while moisturizing and cleansing the scalp. While in the shower or bath, massage the oil into your scalp using a circular motion. Leave in the oil for 20 minutes to allow it to penetrate the scalp. Wrap a hot towel around your head to increase the effects. Rinse with lukewarm water, then dry and style as usual. You may prefer to take a jojoba oil massage either before or after shampooing.
- The type of shampoo that you use can make a difference. Dilute your regular shampoo to make it less harsh on the scalp. Wash your hair daily to remove scaling and flakes. If your regular shampoo is not helping, try using a dandruff shampoo.
- Stress also leads to dandruff. Try to remain relaxed throughout the day.
- Rinsing the hair with an infusion of thyme can also help. Brew fresh thyme into a tea and allow it to cool. Pour this over the hair as an after-shampoo conditioner. Do not rinse out.
- Massage fresh aloe vera from the plant into the scalp. Leave on overnight, before shampooing the next morning.
- Hemp seed oil, which is found in many organic and whole foods supermarkets, can also be used as a hair and scalp conditioner to eliminate dandruff.
