Deciphering Home Asthma Remedies
Asthma refers to a marked difficulty in breathing due to constriction of the respiratory tract. Asthma is often triggered as an allergic reaction to external elements like dust and certain foods.
Asthmatic patients are advised to carry primary medications and inhalers. Some home-remedies can resolve asthma or at least tone down the intensity of an asthma attack.
Home Remedies
- Bitter gourd is an excellent cure for asthma. The roots of this plant have been traditionally used in herbal asthma medications. The extract of bitter gourd roots, when combined with honey, acts like an expectorant and soothes asthmatic symptoms.
- Fruits like figs should be consumed daily to manage asthma. Figs help drain away phlegm that collects in the respiratory tract, inducing bouts of asthmatic coughing. For best results, soak figs in lukewarm water overnight and consume in the morning.
- Mix equal quantities or lemon juice, honey and lukewarm water. This preparation helps control asthmatic attacks. When used regularly, it helps augment overall immunity. Chewing a piece of raw ginger dipped in lemon juice can also relieve the heavy breathing that accompanies an asthmatic episode.
- The plant of holy basil is a very useful natural anti-asthmatic agent. Dip a few holy basil leaves in honey and chew on them daily. Sprinkle the leaves with black pepper, rock salt or both to control asthma attacks.
- Turmeric is a holistic spice with numerous benefits. Freshly-ground turmeric powder when mixed with honey forms a potent anti-asthmatic agent. This can be used several times throughout the day.
- Some people have a tendency to develop asthmatic symptoms with the onset of evening. This is often associated with heavy coughing during the night. To treat this, mix fenugreek with fresh ginger juice and honey. Consume in small doses during early evening.
