A Rundown of Some Home Remedies for Genital Warts
Genital warts are growths that are found in the genital or anal region. These are sexually-transmitted diseases (STDs) that can affect both men and women.
The warts are generally caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV). Symptoms of genital warts include pain on the bumps, itching and discharge. If the wart grows on or near the urethral opening, it could cause urinary obstruction and bleeding.
Many individuals try alternative remedies to eliminate genital warts before or instead of resorting to medically invasive treatments. The following methods are known to be effective.
Home Remedies
- Apply Vitamin E oil on the affected area and place some crushed garlic over it. Cover the area with adhesive tape or gauze. The wart should fall off within a couple of days, as garlic fights the infection and the moisturizing properties of Vitamin E target the cause of the infection and eliminate it.
- Echinacea supplements can be used to hasten the healing of genital warts. Echinacea boosts the immune system and is a powerful antiviral.
- Another herbal supplement with antiviral properties that is known for its action against genital warts is camellia sinensis or green tea extract. Some health food stores stock creams containing green tea extract that can be directly applied on genital warts.
- Applying fresh aloe vera juice on the warts can relieve inflammation and itching caused by the condition. This is because aloe vera contains many vitamins and minerals that soothe and moisturize the skin.
- Prepare an herbal oil remedy for topical application on the warts. First, mix some castor oil, tea tree oil and Vitamin E oil. Apply this oil mixture on the wart but do not cover with bandages or gauze. The combination of these oils moisturizes the area while fighting the infection-causing virus, thereby hastening healing.
- Increase your consumption of sulfur-rich foods. These contain amino acids that are known to fight viral infections, including genital warts. Some examples of sulfur-rich foods are asparagus, eggs, garlic, onions and citrus fruits.
