Ear Ache Home Remedy
Earaches can be due to many different things. One of the commonest reasons for ear pain is change in pressure surrounding the ear. This results in pressure on the inner ear. Another common cause is fluid buildup in the inner ear.
Both scenarios can be very painful. The pain usually goes away on its own within a week or two. If you cannot wait that long, try an ear ache home remedy to alleviate the pain. If your ear problem persists even after trying these home remedies, contact a health professional for proper medical care.
These home remedies will help even if you are unsure about the cause of your earache.
Home Remedies
- Try chewing gum or yawning to stretch out the muscles in your ear. Chewing gum or yawning moves your ear back and forth, creating air passages in and out of the ear. This helps the ear equalize to a change in pressure. These tricks also open nasal passages so that fluid can move out of the ear.
- If that does not work, try a hot bath or shower. Showers are more favorable than baths because they release far more steam. However, both will do the trick. The theory is that by exposing yourself to hot steam or hot water, you will be able to loosen or "melt" any fluid or earwax buildup inside the ear.
- Assuming these preliminary treatments do not work and you have to make it through the night, sleep in a seated position. Sleeping on your back or side will keep the fluids trapped in your ear, giving them no way of escaping and moving around the sinuses. Resting with your head erect could ease the pain by letting your sinuses breathe.
