Allergies Home Remedies

Allergy is a hypersensitive state during which the body's immune system responds drastically to anything that disturbs or irritates the body. Allergies can be caused by one or several agents in one's surroundings, be it food, scent, plants, drugs, animals and so on.

Symptoms of allergy vary from one person to another. In some people, it may appear as rashes on certain areas of the body. Other symptoms may include sneezing, wheezing, coughing, skin burn and swelling on the face and eyes, among others.

It is easier to treat allergies when the cause is known. In general, several homemade remedies are very effective in treating allergies.

Homemade Remedies

  • Lemon is an excellent anti-allergic agent. It can be taken daily with one glass of lukewarm water and a teaspoon of honey to build immunity against different types of allergies. People who are allergic to citrus fruits should not take it. Another effective remedy is applying a paste of sandalwood and lemon juice on the affected area. This reduces irritation and soothes the skin.

  • Fruits like banana are excellent remedies for allergy. Eating one or two bananas each day builds immunity against various kinds of allergies including skin rashes. People who are allergic to bananas should avoid it completely.

  • Some vitamins like Vitamin A, Vitamin B5 and Vitamin E act as anti-allergic agents. Take these on the recommendation of a physician. When continued for some months, these vitamins display excellent anti-allergic properties.

  • Vegetables like carrot, cucumber and beetroot have strong anti-allergic properties and should be consumed frequently, whether in the raw, cooked or juice form. Add a few drops of castor oil to these vegetable juices for even better results.

  • Various teas are wonderful anti-allergic agents. These include chamomile tea, ginger tea, green tea and peppermint tea. Even a cup of these teas provides relief to the intestinal tract, nasal passage and the skin.

  • Garlic and ginger are also effective anti-allergens that are used to treat colds, coughs and sneezing. When combined with fruits, vegetables or other food products, honey works as a magic cure for allergies.
