Home Remedies
Home remedies are becoming more popular especially now doctor's appointments are often difficult to get and the long distances many people have to travel to get to the surgery. If you do have serious problems you are always recommended to visit your doctor for help even if it proves to be an inconvenience. However some illnesses may also benefit from home remedies.
Home remedies are normally treatments that contain items that are not especially considered to have a place in medicine. This will normally be things such as herbs, spices, vegetables and various other household items. Most of them were used at a time when there was no other form of medication and were discontinued once doctors began to be able to prescribe the sort of medication most people now use. Some are family remedies passed from generation to generation and can be quite effective, while others are little more than old wives tales and do little or nothing to help with the ailment.
Well Known Home Remedies
Home remedies such as chicken soup are well known and are normally used for people who have coughs, colds or the flu. This type of remedy does seem to work and there are arguments as to whether there is actually anything in the soup or whether it is just the case that this is the only sort of food that a person who is ill can face eating -- no need to chew and can be easily drunk.
It is not just food that can be used as there are other household and garden items that are also suitable for using when there is illness or an injury. Tea can be made from willow bark which has been proven to cure headaches due to the acids found in the bark being similar to those found in aspirin.
Duct tape has been used for a number of problems with one of these being to help heal broken bones. The big concern here will be making sure that the bone is set in the right position before the treatment starts so while this may be fine to keep the limb steady until proper treatment can be sought we don't advise using it for a long period of time. Duct tape is also considered a way to get rid of plantar warts and if this does not work then it will be possible to then try to get rid of them with super glue. Yes, really!
Home Remedies for Constipation
Constipation can be an embarrassing thing to admit to having and as a result many people would rather try to get rid of it with the use of home remedies before going to see a doctor. As well as being told to avoid eating certain foods in the first place such as prawns and pineapples, there are many other ways to deal with it.
Drinking water is something that everyone should do anyway and added to this it is believed that drinking papaya juice after every meal will help. Molasses and heated lemon juice is also supposed to help and in addition there is also green tea. As green tea has long been considered to be healthy it is a good idea to drink this whether you have constipation or not. Liquids seem to be a popular way to deal with constipation and apple juice is also known to help. Exercise is also recommended when there is a difficulty passing stools and this can range from a brief stroll to a full workout.
Home remedies can be seen as a good way to deal with illnesses and in minor cases they can be. If however they do not work even for headaches and general aches and pains, it will be best to seek medical advice. There may be a way that will be more effective and it is always best to speak to your doctor before opting for any alternative home remedies.
