The Benefits of Watermelons
The watermelon fruit is 90 percent water. It has a thick smooth rind or exocarp, which is green, yellow or white in color. The flesh is sweet and juicy when ripe, and can be pink, red, yellow or orange in color.
Some types of watermelon have small black seeds, while other types have no seeds. Watermelons are said to have originated in South Africa but are now cultivated in warm countries around the world.
Watermelons can be eaten fresh and raw or added to fruit salads, smoothies and juices. They can also be grilled to make watermelon steak; some add salt to enhance the flavor. Others bore a whole into a watermelon and pour in alcohol. The fruit is later cut into alcoholic watermelon slices.
