In India and many other parts of Asia, pomegranate was considered an extremely useful medicine. It was used for various healing purposes. Not only the fruit, but the flower, bark and other parts of the pomegranate tree were said to have medicinal properties.

Excessive intake of pomegranate can harm you. Stomach upset and nausea are common symptoms of eating too much pomegranate. In the olden days, the fruit was even used in making poisons. Don't let that worry you. Just be wary of eating too much. It is advisable to avoid adding sugar to pomegranate juice.
Pomegranate consumption may harm pregnant women. Many expecting mothers have reported severe abdominal pain and even abortion after consuming pomegranate.
