Grapefruits also contain a natural substance called quinine. Liquid quinine is often used to treat fever and malaria. This is done by boiling part of the grapefruit and straining the pulp. It helps reduce heat in the body and quench thirst almost immediately. However, too much grapefruit juice is potentially dangerous. Do not diet solely on grapefruit juice.
