The Countless Benefits of Cinnamon and Honey

The combination of cinnamon and honey has been used in Ayurvedic and oriental medicine over centuries.

Individually, both cinnamon and honey possess medicinal properties. The two substances can be used to treat various ailments and improve health. Studies show that the combination of cinnamon and honey is even more effective in curing and preventing certain health conditions.

Cinnamon is one of the oldest spices known to man. It is made from the dried inner bark of an evergreen tree of the same name. The cinnamon tree is native to Sri Lanka and is now commercially grown in areas including Bangladesh, southern India, Sumatra, Java, Brazil, Vietnam, Zanzibar, Egypt and Madagascar. The tree has a thin, smooth bark that is light yellow or brownish in color. It also has a fragrant aroma.

Bees make honey. Although many other insects can produce honey, people have been primarily using bee honey as an alternative to sugar. Sweetness and color of honey may vary widely, depending on the diet of the bees that produce it.

The mixture of cinnamon and honey combines both essential oils and enzymes that help in the treatment, management and prevention of many illnesses and diseases. It is one of nature's best cures. The mixture is usually prepared by combining cinnamon powder with honey. This can then be applied or ingested. We have listed out some ailments that can be treated with cinnamon and honey.

High Cholesterol

Take two or three teaspoons of cinnamon powder and two tablespoons of pure honey and mix into a couple of ounces of tea. This can reduce blood cholesterol levels by up to 10 percent within two or three hours.

Arthritis

For arthritic patients, make a paste of honey, cinnamon powder and lukewarm water. Massage this on the affected areas. People say that it relieves the pain within 15 minutes.

Hair Loss

To prevent or treat hair loss, combine a tablespoon of warm olive oil, honey and a teaspoon of cinnamon powder to form a paste. Apply this paste on the hair and scalp. Leave on for fifteen minutes. Then wash off the paste with lukewarm water before shampooing and rinsing the hair as usual.

Toothaches

If you have a toothache, prepare a paste of cinnamon and honey and apply on the affected tooth. This can reduce the pain within a few minutes. Both children and adults can use this remedy. However, do not use it on children below one year because honey contains an ingredient that could cause paralysis in infants.

Colds, Coughs and Sinus Problems

Cinnamon and honey can help clear the sinuses as well as treat colds and coughs. Just take a tablespoon of warm honey with a small amount of cinnamon powder every day for three days. You will notice that your breathing is easier and your sinuses are clearer.
