Wild yam is a medicinal herb that is considered very useful, especially in women. Although the herb originates in North America, it is popular in Asia and Africa as well.

Wild yams help treat various complications in the female reproductive system. Because of its antispasmodic property, the medicinal herb is used to treat menstrual cramps. The herb also relieves menopausal pain. It is a great medicine for treating nausea and morning sickness in pregnant women.

The herb is now being used in body lotions for breast massaging. Many beauty therapy centers are using wild yam as an essential ingredient to enlarge breast size. It also plays a key role in improving female fertility. For this reason, it can be taken in small quantities from the start of the menstrual cycle every month until ovulation.

Apart from healing various disorders in the female reproductive system, wild yam helps improve the metabolic system and increases appetite. It is also used to treat nerve-related disorders and to regulate high blood sugar levels. How to Consume

The roots and rhizomes of this herb are used for medicinal purposes. Wild yam is available in the market as tinctures, capsules and gels. Normally, two to three drops of the tincture can be taken thrice a day. One or two capsules can also be taken thrice a day, with similar effect.

Caution

The herb is not recommended for women with hormonal imbalance and cancers of the breast, ovaries or uterus. Pregnant women should also avoid wild yam. This is because the herb results in uterine contraction, which could lead to early abortion. It is advisable to consult your physician and find out about other potential side effects.
