Everyday Food Can be a Cure
As not everyone is either happy to visit a doctor or able to make an appointment when needed it is good to know that everyday food can be a cure for many sicknesses. Rather than reach for the medicine box it is often just as useful to go through the food cupboard and find a number of items that will help to either reduce the symptom or in some cases cure them altogether.
Types of Everyday Food That Can Be a Cure
- Garlic will be found in most houses and it is useful in a number of ways. It has always been known for being good for dealing with cholesterol and it also lowers blood pressure, but it is now found to have a small ability to act in the way that penicillin does. This will not be as strong as penicillin but will give the body a good start when it comes to fending off Listeria and Salmonella. There is also the belief that a lot of garlic can help to prevent cancer developing.
- Turmeric can be used as a pain killer and also an anti inflammatory tool meaning that it will bring relief to people who have arthritis and tendonitis. It also has also been proven to help people who have either colon cancer or Alzheimer's.
- Herbs and spices have long been thought to work as medicines in the past so it is no real surprise that they are still appearing in home remedies. Basil is an herb that many believe helps with stress. Holy basil which is the type that is used when making pesto is able to copy adrenaline which helps to decrease the levels of serotonin in the body and thus reduce stress levels. It is also used as a natural sterilizer and can help to stop a feeling of nausea.
- Ginger is used by pregnant women and sailors to try to combat the feeling of either morning sickness or sea sickness. It has been claimed that it has many properties including the ability to lower the risk of cancer developing, stop pain and improve blood flow. It can be useful to take ginger after an operation as it is able to work towards preventing blood clots by working on the platelets that join together to form them.
- While it would be great to hear that all chocolate could be used as medication it is in fact just dark chocolate that can be useful. It produces antioxidants in the form of strong flavonoids and will actually work against clogged arteries and help prevent heart attacks.
As well as being healthy it is good to know that there are vegetables that can help with sickness issues.
- While fennel is often considered to be an herb, either using it in this form or eating the bulb as a vegetable will lead to improvements for those who suffer from flatulence. Fennel helps with the way air is propelled through the digestive system and is especially good for women as it help them to fight against the symptoms when they go through the menopause.
- Cabbages are high in vitamin U and as a result are able to help the body fight against ulcers. Whether or not carrots can actually improve eyesight seems to be very much open to suggestion but it has always been a good way to get children to eat them.
- Rosemary is another herb that is believed to fight off cancer especially breast cancer. There is also rosmarinic acid that will help to deal with allergies and there is also evidence to show that it can help with arthritis.
Things to Remember When Using Everyday Food as a Cure
While it may seem great to be able to use everyday food as a cure the food cupboard should not become a replacement for a visit to the doctors. There will only be so much food can do. It should be remembered that these treatments were used many years ago until "proper" medication was invented.
