Alternative Medicine

Natural Remedies

Natural remedies are medicines that are made of natural products, rather than conventional remedies, often chemically based. There are different natural remedies for different ailments and some are starting to be accepted by the scientific or conventional medical community. Natural remedies can also include a change of lifestyle, rather than taking a supplement of any kind.

Acne

The natural remedy for acne generally is to implement some good lifestyle changes, including healthy eating and living, ensuring your hands are cleaned and washed regularly, managing stress levels and not sleeping on your face, as there will be a build up of fatty residue between your face and the pillow you are using.

Allergies

An allergy can manifest itself in many different ways, including itches or rashes, breathing problems or swelling, to name but a few. An allergy is a reaction to a certain product that the body is not tolerant to and allergies exist for many different things. Some of the most common ones are dust mites, beestings and peanuts, but allergies exist for any sort of product, including, for example, deodorant spray.

The appropriate natural remedy to treat an allergy will depend on the type of allergic reaction. It is also very important to seek appropriate medical advice in case of a severe allergic reaction, rather than relying on alternative therapies. Some natural remedies for allergies include:

  • Castor oil
  • Lime
  • Vegetable juices
  • Gingko Bilbao
  • Resihi Mushrooms

Constipation

Constipation is generally caused by the foods we eat and the lifestyle we lead. This is why constipation can generally quite easily be treated by using a natural remedy. Constipation is also very common during pregnancy, when many conventional medicines cannot be used. Some of the best known natural remedies for constipation are:

  • Orange juice
  • Bael Fruit
  • Pear
  • Guava
  • Grapes
  • Papaya
  • Figs
  • Spinach

High Blood Pressure

Hypertension or high blood pressure is a serious medical condition that should be managed by a qualified medical professional. However, there are certain measures you can take yourself to lower your blood pressure by using a natural remedy. Some of the best known natural treatments for high blood pressure include:

  • Garlic, which has been scientifically proven to be beneficial
  • Indian Gooseberry
  • Lemon as it is a very good source of Vitamin P, strengthening the capillaries
  • Grapefruit, another great source of Vitamin P
  • Watermelon and watermelon seeds
  • Rice, as it is low in fat, low in cholesterol and low in salt. High blood pressure is often caused by cholesterol and salts.
  • Potato
  • Parsley
  • Rauwolfia
  • Vegetable juice
  • Hawthorn
  • Fish Oils
  • Holly leaf extract
  • Flax seed
  • Daikon seed extract

Thrush

Thrush is a common condition caused by a yeast infection. It is common in both men and women and can be caused by a variety of reasons, including wearing underwear that is too tight. Thrush is very contagious and it is important to reduce it to ensure further spread is halted.

There are different natural remedies to combat thrush, including:

  • A live culture of yoghurt applied on the affected area
  • Wormwood
  • Clove oil
  • Apple cider vinegar
  • Light and air

Natural remedies are available for almost any condition you can think of. It is very important to remember that certain conditions need to be treated by a specialist medical professional and very often a natural remedy should be used only to compliment an existing condition. Furthermore, just because a treatment is natural does not necessarily mean it is safe and it is important to fully research the natural remedy you are thinking of using and discussing this with your physician.
